Print and scan feedback experiment / 2021

For this experiment I printed out a face I had generated with AI. I printed it with a laser printer at 300dpi in four varying sizes: 1in2, 2in2, 4in2, & 8in2. I then scanned each at 1200ppi, a resolution high enough to capture the individual dots of ink produced by the printer.

In Photoshop I scaled the scans to be the same size, overlaid them, then, by using different blending modes I explored how the differently-sized halftone dot patterns of the ink would interact with each other. The intricate fractal patterns that would emerge from this interactivity were most exciting to me.
